Take a deep breath…

MB&F, the world’s leading conceptual horology laboratory, is celebrating more than 10 years of intensive creativity with 15 extraordinary calibers that animate their Horological Machines and Legacy Machines that are applauded in the press, and are the basis of the international renown of MB&F.

After having pushed the limits of horological mechanics with futuristic designs to be propelled into space (HM2, HM3, HM6), in the sky (HM4), on roads and racetracks (HM5, HMX, HM8), MB&F plunges into the deep with its aquatic Horological Machine N° 7, alias HM7 Aquapod.

The HM7 Aquapod, the watch inspired by a jellyfish

Maximilian Büsser, the founder of MB&F, had the idea to create an aquatic watch as a souvenir of a family vacation by the sea, and an encounter with a jellyfish in particular. More than just anecdotal, this event sowed the seeds for a three-dimensional watch with a tentacle-shaped winding rotor.

The organic design of the HM7 Aquapod is counterbalanced by the mechanism lodged in the interior: a central tourbillion dominates the vertical, concentric construction of the movement and the hours and minutes float around, like waves on the ocean.

The HM7 Aquapod was born in the shape of a horological jellyfish, with its carefully designed biomorphic motor. Jellyfish have radial symmetry, as does the Aquapod. So while a jellyfish eats food grasped by its tentacles, the HM7 gets its energy from the automatic tentacle-shaped winding rotor.

Key points: While the HM7 Aquapod is as modern as

possible, the concept of the three-dimensional spherical construction is age-old. Its origins lie in the “onion” pocket watches popular in the 18th century. While most of the horology movements were developed horizontally, incredibly detailed research allowed the motor of the HM7 to be higher than it is wide, with elements mounted vertically.

Plus: Like many jellyfish, the HM7 glows at night. The numbers for the hours and minutes are illuminated, and there is illumination around the movement… The light reveals the flying tourbillion, as well as the tentacles of the winding rotor.

The HM7 Aquapod is a limited edition of 33 watches in grade-5 titanium with a blue bezel, and a second edition of 66 in 5N+rose gold with a black bezel. Both have luminescent blue details.

Characteristics: The architecture of the movement comprises three-dimensional verticality with automatic rewinding conceived and developed internally MB&F; 60-second central flying tourbillion; 72-hour reserve power; 35 rubies; Spherical case construction; First editions in grade-5 titanium or 5N+ 18K rose gold; waterproof to 50 meters; Sapphire crystal treated with antireflective coating; High-quality aero-nautical rubber strap.
