Bathyscaphe, A New Member To The Family
With a vintage feel, the Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe, presented for the first time in 2013, expands its collection with a timepiece in a smaller 38mm case. Both the dial and bezel are in Abyss Blue, a symbolic color for Blancpain as it recalls the depths of the sea.
History Of A Legend
Blancpain’s Bathyscaphe diver watches were first seen in the 1950s with models for men, and later for women. In 2013, for the 60th anniversary of the Fifty Fathoms, the Bathyscaphe model took on a new look, inspired by the first versions. The contours were as stylish as their predecessors and the wide, rectangular hands recall classic watches.
Silicon Balance Spring
An innovation for the watch-making industry over the past few decades, silicon has several advantages: hardness as well as lightness, as well as more shock resistant, and does not respond to magnetic fields. Thanks to these properties, the spring benefits from an almost perfect geometry that by consequence improves the isochronism of the movement and therefore the precision of the watch.
Characteristics: Three hands
Key points: The Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe is powered by Caliber 1150, which is distinguished by its robustness and chronometer characteristics.
Plus: Like all diving watches worthy of their name, each model is equipped with a unidirectional bezel that rotates counter-clockwise by small notches. True to the original version of the Bathyscaphe, the luminescent dot on the bezel serves as an index for divers, enabling accurate alignment with the minutes hand and thereby defining the start of a given dive time.
