Don’t Be “Shocked”

The goal of the ultra-innovative RM 53-01: imagine a watch so extremely shock resistant it can support even the most violent impacts of a polo game, all the while revealing its movement.

Richard Mille looked to the automobile industry to get its inspiration for high-tech laminated glass. In this case, a polyvinyl film is sandwiched between two sapphire glasses, marking a first in watch making. The glass might crack, but will not break. Anti-UV and anti-reflection treatment also protect the movement from the exterior environment, another exclusivity patented by Richard Mille.

With an innovative reinforced structure, the barrel-shaped case is made of Carbone TPT®, providing phenomenal resistance and making it virtually indestructible. The blend of undulated design and the sharp lines of the case add a sporty look to this cutting-edge timepiece.

Characteristics: Carbone TPT case, Sapphire glass laminated with anti-UV and anti-reflection treatment, tourbillon movement with manual winding,

double base-plates (central and peripheral), base-plates and bridges in Grade 5 titanium.

Limited edition of 30 watches in Carbone TPT®

Key points: Sporty and innovative, the RM 53-01 represents the “shock” of the encounter between Richard Mille and Pablo Mac Donough, one of the world’s best polo players.

Plus: The tourbillon movement is suspended by two braided steel cables to be ultra shock-resistant. The unusual architecture of this watch design called for the development of dual base-plates.
