From Pierre and Claire to Their Son Édouard Lacour, a Passion Passed Down in Gustavia
At Sea Memory, the objects have stories, and so does the boutique. Born from Pierre and Claire Lacour’s passion for materials and craftsmanship, this Gustavia destination continues its family journey with their son Édouard. That legacy shapes a distinctive way of selecting, creating, and sharing the story behind each piece.
From Martinique to St. Barts
The story begins in the 1980s. Pierre and Claire Lacour leave France for the Caribbean, settling first in Martinique. As they explore the islands, they grow attached to St. Barts, which becomes their home in 1995.
Both self-taught antique restorers, they develop a keen eye for materials, finishes, and craftsmanship. In April 1997, they open Sea Memory. Their boutique brings together furniture and objects from different parts of the world, chosen as much for their character as for the quality of their workmanship.
Their founding idea is simple: make room for pieces that inspire curiosity and stand the test of time.
Édouard Lacour, the Next Generation
In 2007, their son Édouard joins the venture. He brings his experience with exotic leathers and makes galuchat, a marine leather recognizable by its grain, one of Sea Memory’s signature materials.
This choice gives the maison a new direction while extending his parents’ attention to textures and craftsmanship. Galuchat lends the creations its distinctive presence; each piece invites a closer look at its surface and details.
The family legacy takes shape around a shared sensibility. Édouard carries forward the story begun by Pierre and Claire while bringing his own taste to it.
Objects Worth Taking the Time to Discover
Today, Sea Memory offers furniture, home accessories, fashion accessories, and jewelry. Alongside galuchat, the selection includes other materials, notably mother-of-pearl, horn, and crystal.
In the Gustavia boutique, part of an object’s appeal lies in what visitors learn as they examine it. Claire and Édouard enjoy sharing anecdotes and discoveries connected to the pieces they present. That conversation gives each visit a personal dimension: guests come to explore a selection and may leave remembering a story.
A Family Maison That Continues to Evolve
Since 1997, Sea Memory has evolved while staying connected to its beginnings. Pierre and Claire’s eye for objects laid the foundation; Édouard continues to develop the maison through the materials he favors and the pieces he creates.
This connection between generations gives Sea Memory its particular place in St. Barts. In Gustavia, the boutique tells the story of a family passion that continues to unfold, one piece at a time.
